This was a special session for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, all of my sessions are special! But this one was especially sweet. Mrs. K and I have known each other since elementary school, but haven’t seen each other in almost 15 years! She’s been one of the biggest supporters of my photography, and I’ve treasured our Facebook friendship for years. When Mrs. K said it was time for family photos of her own, I was so excited for the chance to catch up. I took a short trip to Olympia, where they live, work, and play.
There was only one catch! A few days before our session, Big Sis declared that she was not participating in the family photos. Mrs. K is the best mom — she just totally rolled with it, and told me however things turned out would be just fine. We both held out hope that Big Sis would see how much fun we were having and end up choosing to be in the photos. Wishful thinking? For most of the day, yes! Big Sis was so polite about it, asking sweetly, “Please don’t take my picture.” Near the end of our session, though, momma had the best idea! She asked Big Sis if she got her face painted, wouldn’t it be nice to have a picture to remember it? And, Big Sis said “Yes!” I just love the way her smile lights up in the last family photo. And not to be forgotten, check out Little Sis’s smile! It just warms my heart.
I just love these photos — they capture the challenge, joy, and overall sweetness of my day with the K family. I sure hope it isn’t 15 years before we see each other again!
